Plenary Council  “Year of Listening and Discernment”

SALE DIOCESAN ASSEMBLY – Diocesan Assembly: 13-14 September 2019

The Diocese of Sale is holding its Diocesan Assembly, the first for over 15 years, in September. The Assembly will be convened in the spirit of the preparation for the Plenary Council 2020 in which we have already been engaged for the past eighteen months. Bishop Pat and the Diocesan Gaudium et Spes Plenary 20-20 Committee have been aware that, through the feedback from hundreds of listening and Dialogue conversations held in parishes, schools and regional gatherings, there is much that can be done in our Diocese right now. Further details about the numbers of delegates from each parish, how to choose delegates and online booking details will be sent from the Diocese to clergy and parishes in mid-July. After this, a simple conversation process will be distributed to parishes with an invitation to engage their communities in some discussion of the Assembly topics before the Assembly gathering in September.

Following the Sale Diocesan Assembly, our parish community will be asked to contemplate and reflect on the 6 National Themes for Discernment. A series of articles and videos to help explain discernment are shared via the Plenary Council website, clicking on PlenaryPost, Themes and Discernment tabs. www.plenarycouncil.com.au

Pope Francis writes:

“How can we know if something comes from the Holy Spirit or if it stems from the spirit of the world or the spirit of the devil? The only way is through discernment, which calls for something more than intelligence or common sense.
“It is a gift which we must implore. If we ask with confidence that the Holy Spirit grant us this gift, and then seek to develop it through prayer, reflection, reading and good counsel, then surely we will grow in this spiritual endowment.
“The gift of discernment has become all the more necessary today, since contemporary life offers immense possibilities for action and distraction, and the world presents all of them as valid and good.
“Without the wisdom of discernment, we can easily become prey to every passing trend.”

Collect Today – your letter of thanks confirming your new commitment and where applicable a new set of envelopes.  The letters are available in surname order and members of the Program Leadership Team will be on hand at all Masses to assist with this process.  The new commitments take effect from next week and to avoid any confusion please destroy any old envelopes that you may still have.

Not yet completed your pledge or your Groups & Ministries Form?  Don’t worry – pledge cards and forms are available on the table at the rear of the church.  Completed cards and forms can be placed in the collection plate or given to Fr Denis.

A reminder that all Groups & Ministries responses are currently being processed and all those who responded will be contacted in the very near future.  Your support in this key area of parish life is very much appreciated.

THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN!

Stewardship Program Prayer

Lord, we thank you for calling us to be your Church.

Through our Baptism we are called to service and to witness.

In the Eucharist we sustain and strengthen that call.

By serving others we follow your example and proclaim our beliefs.

By our Christian generosity we demonstrate our love and care.

Lord, help us always to worship you as you deserve,

to grow in faith and service

and to give without counting the cost.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.   Amen
