SPECIAL COLLECTION

Mission Sunday – Next weekend our parish will be holding the annual Catholic Mission Church Appeal. This year we are invited to partner with the Church in Ghana, as they provide ongoing protection and development of children who are vulnerable. In line with traditional beliefs, in parts of Ghana, children born with a disability, or whose mother passes during childbirth, are considered to be ‘spirit children’, and thus at risk of being harmed or killed. The Church in Ghana is dedicated to protecting these children and educating families to ensure every child has a chance to live a full life. For more information on their mission, please visit catholicmission.org.au/Ghana. Please pick-up an envelope. All collection above $2 are tax-deductable.

PLENARY COUNCIL – Listening and Discernment Phase 2019-2020

The voices of 222,000 people who participated nationally in the listening and dialogue encounters contributing with 17,457 submissions for the Australian Plenary Council. The voices of this faithful help all of us to understand something of the historical experience and the current reality of the Catholic church in Australia. The gathered data also reveals some deeper hopes and questions, and the diverse yearnings, that we are now challenged to consider together. The National Themes for Discernment named below are inspired by the data and call us toward the future.

NOW THAT WE ARE IN THE DISCERNMENT PHASE,

WE CONTINUE TO SEEK THE WISDOM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

HOW IS GOD CALLING US TO BE CHRIST-CENTRED CHURCH THAT IS:

– Missionary and Evangelising

– Inclusive, participatory and synodal

– Prayerful and Eucharistic

– Humble, healing and merciful

– A Joy-full, hope-filled and servant community

– Open to conversion, renewal and reform

This period for Listening and Discernment will be open until the first few months of 2020. We continue praying for our Church in Australia that we, people of faith will reconvene in communal discernment in the near future on any one of the six themes. For more information on this phase, please visit the Plenary Council website: www.plenarycouncil.com.au

Click on the Diocesan Assembly graphic and you will be directed to the Diocesan Assembly page. The final two themes will be prepared and published soon.
