SPECIAL COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND

Mission Sunday – This weekend our parish will be holding the annual Catholic Mission Church Appeal. This year we are invited to partner with the Church in Ghana, as they provide ongoing protection and development of children who are vulnerable. In line with traditional beliefs, in parts of Ghana, children born with a disability, or whose mother passes during childbirth, are considered to be ‘spirit children’, and thus at risk of being harmed or killed. The Church in Ghana is dedicated to protecting these children and educating families to ensure every child has a chance to live a full life. For more information on their mission, please visit catholicmission.org.au/Ghana. All collection above $2 are tax-deductable. Please pick-up an envelope.

RCIA – Period of Enquiry.- We keep praying for Margaret Grech, Junghee Youm and Dhaneshi Mannapperuma as they continue their journey of faith. We pray that their lives are transformed by encountering Jesus in his love, teachings and blessings. Next period in this year’s RCIA process will be the Rite of Acceptance to be celebrated on November 17th. As Margaret, Junghee and Dhaneshi continue this process, may God bless them with abundant faith.

PLENARY COUNCIL – Listening and Discernment Phase 2019-2020

The voices of 222,000 have helped all of us to understand something of the historical experience and the current reality of the Catholic church in Australia. The gathered data reveals some deeper hopes and questions, and the diverse yearnings, that we are now challenged to consider together. The National Themes for Discernment named below are inspired by the data and call us toward the future.

HOW IS GOD CALLING US TO BE CHRIST-CENTRED CHURCH THAT IS:

– Missionary and Evangelising

– Inclusive, participatory and synodal

– Prayerful and Eucharistic

– Humble, healing and merciful

– A Joy-full, hope-filled and servant community

– Open to conversion, renewal and reform

This period for Listening and Discernment will be open until the first few months of 2020. We continue praying for our Church in Australia that we, people of faith will reconvene in communal discernment in the near future on any one of the six themes. For more information on this phase, please visit the Plenary Council website: www.plenarycouncil.com.au
